Flood over Kawlpi [Kalay Myo OR Kalemyo] in 2009 October
It's greatly and horribly overflooding the River of Mitha (Mytha Chaung) or Myitha River; Which began from the Manipur River and flows to Chindwin River. This is the second time I heard and see river Myitha awfullly flooding over Kawlpi (Kalay Myo) the Home Land of Zomi (Chin) since 1996.
In the second week of October 2009, the Myitha River overflowed its banks and inundated streets and roads detestfully. According to the report of Zen Thawn Mung; vehicles could not use the roads to Kale via Kalewo, Kale-Tamu and Kale-Mandalay, for the severe of this un-dated overflowing river; and caused people could not go to their destinations.
The floods' already two days and two nights in the town of Kawlpi (kalay) and is not stopping, said a Kalay Myo settler Pa Kam Khan Mung(Gualnam Anlangh) to Zam Sian Sang. It could clearly count that more than Twenty villages located on the river bank were ;nase-takin' affected.
About 3,000 people in Kalemyo monastery and Kaley-Theatre lost.
The authorities are collecting food from the local people for the flood victims.
It is estimated that more than 25000 people and thousands of homes in more than fity towns and villages are devasted by this inhospitable river overflooding; and destroyed rice and other plantations over an area of over 1250,000 acres.
This detesful river overflooding swept away the Seikyi-bridge (Greatport)on the road to Tahan-Letpanchaung.
